30 Things About My Invisible Illness You May Not Know

1. The illness I live with is – Fibromyalgia
2. I was diagnosed with it in the year – 2006
3. But I had symptoms since – childhood
4. The biggest adjustment I’ve had to make is – adjust expectations of myself, both mine and others
5. Most people assume – that they have felt this way too,
6. The hardest part about mornings are – feeling like I haven’t slept
7. My favorite medical TV show is – RPA
8. A gadget I couldn’t live without is – iphone
9. The hardest part about nights are – getting to sleep or more accurately the leg pain when I first lie down that lasts for at least an hour
10. Each day I take 0 pills & vitamins.
11. Regarding alternative treatments I – believe they help bring our bodies to a state of optimal well being. In some people that means lessening/removing the need for mainstream medical treatments.
12. If I had to choose between an invisible illness or visible I would choose – visible
13. Regarding working and career – Since I have only had one full time job and my career so far has been raising our children I look forward to being able to work from home once the children have grown out of the demanding stage
14. People would be surprised to know – that at times suicide has been a serious consideration, briefly but seriously….
15. The hardest thing to accept about my new reality has been – FMS has always been my reality but it has been hard knowing I will never again feel the physical and mental freedom that pregnancy creates
16. Something I never thought I could do with my illness that I did was – nothing
17. The commercials about my illness – are american, I wish I could organize a large enough Official FMS org in Australia to support ad’s here.
18. Something I really miss doing since I was diagnosed being pregnant is – walking and loving
19. It was really hard to have to give up – atm gluten/sugar/dairy/grains – I tried this diet before and it was amazing, pain levels were the same but I had tremendous energy, drastic decrease in anxiety and my general coping abilities improved. Generally I find it hard to accept that I cannot easily achieve what I used to while pregnant.
20. A new hobby I have taken up since my diagnosis is – sitting *grin*
21. If I could have one day of feeling normal again I would – spend the day out in a happy hot crowded place with my family enjoying the day to the fullest
22. My illness has taught me – that I am not an alien surround by normals. that I am capable of far more than my conscious thought believes. that if you don’t love this life, you’re wasting each precious breathe you have been gifted.
23. Want to know a secret? One thing people say that gets under my skin is – “I don’t know how you do it” – like I have a freaking choice!
24. But I love it when people – Tell me how wonderful our children are and compliment my cooking
25. My favorite motto, scripture, quote that gets me through tough times is – love, just love. love is everything and makes all things possible
26. When someone is diagnosed I’d like to tell them – that they are normal, it is everyone else who are aliens ;-)
27. Something that has surprised me about living with an illness is – how much insight it seems to give me
28. The nicest thing someone did for me when I wasn’t feeling well was – tell me it was ok, I am allowed to feel pain and it doesn’t make me any less
29. I’m involved with Invisible Illness Week because – it has no publicity in Australia
30. The fact that you read this list makes me feel – happy that someone, somewhere may gain a little more insight
